LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Falls are a leading cause of injury and death in the state, and the number that emergency medical services providers are responding to is increasing at “an accelerated pace,” according to a study released by the Department of Health Services.
Health professionals at Gundersen Health System are sharing a few tips on how to prevent falls.
“Most falls happen at home so make sure your home is properly lit, have good lighting, have a clutter-free space so get rid of the rugs if you can and then make sure those things that you need frequently are easily acceptable,” says Shayna Schertz a wellness educator at Gundersen Health System.
Friday is Fall Prevention Awareness Day and the La Crosse County Falls Prevention Coalition is hosting an event at the R.W. Houser Family YMCA in Onalaska that will showcase local resources and information to help you stay informed, active, and free from falls. The event runs from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
